Job description
Overview

Responsibilities
  • FinOps Tooling - Solution Design & Delivery: Design, plan and implement scalable FinOps systems and tools for cloud cost visibility, forecasting, and optimization. Build or integrate tools to aggregate billing data from AWS, Azure, GCP and SaaS platforms. Collaborate with DevOps and engineering to automate cost optimization processes (e.g., rightsizing, auto-scaling, scheduling).
  • Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute a FinOps roadmap to improve cost accountability and cloud financial management maturity. Serve as the primary solution designer for all FinOps-related tooling, reporting, and integrations. Define and enforce cloud cost governance policies, including tagging, budgeting, chargeback/showback, and resource allocation strategies. Educate, guide and influence the wider FinOps team and community on the development of the FinOps tooling ecosystem and navigation of HSBC processes.
  • Reporting & Optimization: Build automated optimisation solutions and dashboards to deliver cost savings for HSBC. Deliver improved cost anomaly reporting solutions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Finance, Engineering and Architecture to translate business needs into FinOps technical solutions. Act as a FinOps subject matter expert with the major technical stakeholder communities (e.g. architecture and engineering organizations). Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure resources are right‑sized and cost‑effective.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in cloud solution design, cloud financial management, DevOps, or platform engineering/architecture.
  • Experience with FinOps platforms such as Apptio, Cloudability, CloudHealth, Spot.io, ProsperOps, Power BI, Power Apps or custom-built tools.
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., BigQuery, Athena, Snowflake, Tableau, Looker).
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Terraform.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Location

This role is based in Sheffield; Birmingham can also be considered.
