The role

Are you experienced in public sector finance and committed to supporting transparent, accountable financial management? This role offers the chance to lead budget preparation, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide vital financial insights that enable effective service delivery and long-term community investment.

  • Lead Financial Planning: Oversee the preparation of revenue and capital budgets, aligning with strategic plans and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.
  • Maintain Standards & Compliance: Develop financial policies, ensure adherence to accounting standards, and support robust management accounting practices.
  • Capital & Investment Appraisal: Assess the financial impact of capital programmes and conduct appraisals to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Management Reporting: Deliver accurate and timely budgetary control information and develop systems for efficient internal and external financial reporting.
  • Systems & Ledger Oversight: Maintain and improve financial systems, including ledgers, fixed asset registers, and support service costing.
  • Stakeholder Support & Training: Provide financial guidance to managers, deliver training, and participate in committees and selection panels.
  • Collaborative & Flexible Working: Work as part of a team to meet evolving demands, support treasury functions, and uphold high standards of service, equality, and compliance.
The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Finance, or Accountancy.
  • Member by examination of CcAB recognised body OR Consideration will be given to candidates who do not hold the above academic qualification but who can demonstrate extensive relevant experience.
  • Experience in a computerised accounting environment.
Desirable
  • Experience working in public sector
  • Awareness of capital accounting
