Permanent, full time, 37 hours per week (1.0 FTE) Band 8 - £59,967 to £69,488 per annum

The opportunity

The University of Suffolk is looking for an ambitious Financial Controller to lead change, modernise financial operations and help shape a high-performing, service-focused finance function. This is a senior leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys improving how things work and brings energy, curiosity, and a can‑do attitude. You will lead the Financial Operations team, working closely with colleagues across the University to support transformation, strengthen controls and deliver a positive experience for students, staff and partners.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Leading and developing a motivated, customer‑focused Financial Operations team
  • Driving improvement and transformation of financial processes, systems and ways of working
  • Building strong relationships across the University to support effective decision‑making
  • Championing a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Playing a key role in safeguarding University resources and supporting sustainable growth
  • Acting as a trusted senior advisor and role model for inclusive, values‑led leadership
About You

You are a qualified accountant and an engaging leader who enjoys making a difference. You bring:

  • Experience leading teams through change in a complex organisation
  • A proactive, solution‑focused mindset and the confidence to challenge and improve
  • Strong people skills and the ability to inspire, coach and develop others
  • The ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A commitment to integrity, inclusion and putting students at the heart of what you do

Experience in Higher Education or large public‑sector organisations is welcome, but not essential.
