Why join our client?

This is a chance to power a mission that supports over 1,600 people through a team of 3,000 passionate colleagues. You'll bring clarity to cashflow, speed to month-end, and strength to financial controls, knowing every number contributes to frontline care and support. If you've been craving meaningful work and a high-trust culture where finance drives purpose - this is your moment.

How you'll make an impact

As Financial Controller in Bristol, you'll take ownership of core finance operations and continuous improvement. You'll lead and develop a capable team while modernising systems, tightening controls, and delivering insightful reporting.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering accurate management accounts, board packs, and statutory returns.
  • Leading the month-end close, driving balance-sheet hygiene and faster close cycles.
  • Overseeing AP, AR, and statutory invoicing to improve debtor days and reduce errors.
  • Managing payroll (outsourced) in collaboration with People & Culture for data accuracy.
  • Producing rolling 13-week cashflow forecasts and rationalising bank structures.
  • Driving sensible automation and system efficiencies (Open Accounts and connected tools).
  • Introducing KPIs across finance ops - from invoice accuracy to payroll timeliness.
  • Documenting robust controls and processes to futureproof the function.
  • Supporting capital projects with sound financial input.
  • Coaching, developing, and motivating your finance team - setting clear goals and celebrating progress.

Why our client is excited about you

You're a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with hands-on financial control experience and a track record of strengthening finance operations. You don't just manage - you lead, mentor, and get stuck in. You're systems-savvy, process-minded, and thrive in an environment where your work creates real-world impact.

You will also bring:

  • Proven experience delivering a faster close and cleaner audit.
  • Comfort working with mid-tier ERP systems (experience with Open Accounts is a bonus).
  • A sleeves-rolled-up approach - you see problems and fix them fast.
  • A collaborative, inclusive leadership style that develops people and culture.
  • Passion for working in a purpose-led organisation where finance enables social good.

What you'll get in return

This opportunity offers a highly attractive mix of flexibility, values-driven work, and strong benefits:

  • £70,000-£85,000 basic salary
  • Hybrid working - typically two days per week in Bristol
  • 35-hour working week with flexibility
  • Ethical pension scheme and comprehensive wellbeing support
  • A team culture where your impact is clear and tangible

We invite applications from all qualified candidates who believe they meet the requirements of the role, whilst supporting and promoting equality and diversity to create an inclusive working environment for all.
