We are modernising and transforming our finance function and seek driven, forward-thinking individuals who are passionate about precision, process, and progress. The goal is to build a finance team that delivers exceptional control and accuracy while acting as a proactive partner to the wider organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
  • Oversee cash flow, working capital, and treasury functions.
  • Ensure compliance with FRS 102 and other relevant accounting standards, particularly around income recognition and disclosures.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with teams across the Big Issue Group; liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Supervise and mentor trainee finance staff.
  • Support strategic planning and business case development; implement and improve financial controls and systems.
  • Contribute to building a collaborative, digitally enabled environment with a focus on innovation and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications and Experience

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in financial management and a recognised UK accountancy qualification. Experience with cloud-based accounting tools (such as Xero and its ecosystem) is a plus, but the mindset should be curious, adaptable, and eager to make a difference.

Remuneration and Benefits
  • Salary of £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, dependant on skills and experience.
  • Incremental holiday entitlement starting at 25 days per year plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff) plus paid leave to care for a sick child or grandchild and a sick or elderly relative.
  • Company Sick Pay.
  • Enhanced contribution to our workplace pension.
  • Enhanced maternity pay.
  • Training and development opportunities including an open learning library and management training schemes.
  • Health benefits including life cover and a health cash plan scheme providing access to counselling and a range of therapies.
  • Blue Light benefits card.
  • Please note that we reserve the right to review and amend our staff benefits and they do not form part of any contract of employment.
