Job Description
We are looking for a talented Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team specializing in Facilities for Cummins Meritor Heavy Vehicle Braking Systems in Cwmbran, UK. This is a permanent role working onsite with flexible shifts: 6.00 am to 2.00 pm or 7.30 am to 4.00 pm – work dependent.
Responsibilities
- Perform general mechanical maintenance and demonstrate a solid understanding of building systems; provide guidance or instructions to others on maintenance activities when required.
- Assess facility infrastructure for performance, suitability, and safety; carry out repairs or improvements within capability or coordinate and oversee third‑party service providers.
- Prioritize health, safety, and environmental requirements in all tasks, including reactive work assessments, project planning, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics on building systems using appropriate tools and test equipment to identify root causes and resolve issues.
- Maintain, install, and operate equipment related to building energy systems (e.g., boilers, chillers, compressors, cooling towers, air handling units).
- Read and interpret mechanical, HVAC, pneumatic, and technical documents such as schematics, drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Use maintenance management software to track, assign, and prioritize reactive, planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance tasks, and support building management system (BMS) operations.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to perform mechanical repairs, train apprentices or junior technicians, support HVAC quality procedures, and participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of facility and structural requirements, including building regulations, fire prevention, HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems, drainage, and environmental considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently, taking ownership of tasks with a proactive and action‑oriented approach.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, form effective partnerships with colleagues and third parties, and adapt communication style to different audiences.
- Customer‑focused mindset, committed to delivering high‑quality, service‑oriented solutions that meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
- Must hold a relevant trade qualification (e.g., Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, HVAC Engineer, or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to apply transferable skills across multiple trades.
- Strong understanding of related trade practices and compliance requirements.
