Are you an Estimator / Buyer with an engineering / structural background looking for a new opportunity?

Advanced Resourcing is a forward thinking Recruitment agency connecting talent with opportunities across the Midlands and Shropshire.

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a distinguished UK-based engineering and fabrication specialist, founded in 1932. The company also excels in designing, supplying, installing, and commissioning bespoke heat treatment kilns, furnaces, mechanical handling systems, refractory linings, and control assemblies across diverse industrial sectors including energy, nuclear, defence, aerospace, and environmental processing.

Responsibilities
  • Estimating projects from concept designs or detailed designs and customers specifications. Conduct material take offs and accurately calculate the costs of labour, materials and equipment to produce competitive bids
  • Obtain pricing from various suppliers and subcontractors for needed items and services.
  • Identify and assess potential risks on a project to incorporate contingency into cost estimates.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope and requirements. Work with engineers, designers, and other project team members to finalize cost estimates. Purchasing to the quoted prices (if not cheaper) when the project is received as a contract.
  • Utilize specialized software, such as Excel, for calculations and to maintain cost databases.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, metallurgical or equivalent discipline).
  • Proven background in heavy engineering, ideally in one off/batch production environments.
  • Hands-on familiarity with welding standards and procedures (ARC, MIG, TIG) and European structural/encrypted norms.
  • Experience with quality management systems, ISO 9001, and technical documentation (e.g., WPS, inspection plans).
  • Solid track record in Estimating, delivering uniquely tailored (one-off) engineering solutions—not repetitive line items.
  • Excellent communication skills, both with technical teams and clients.
  • Strong structured problem-solving and organisational capability.
