Overview

We have an exciting permanent opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Private Rented Sector Housing Regulation and Fire Safety Team. This role is ideal for someone who is practical, motivated, and confident in taking responsibility for their work, with a genuine commitment to improving housing conditions and residents’ lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Addressing poor housing conditions, taking enforcement action against rogue landlords, dealing with unlicensed premises, and supporting improvements in energy efficiency and fire safety.
  • Inspecting private rented properties, enforcing licensing requirements, carrying out HHSRS assessments, identifying hazards and required works, and serving statutory notices where necessary.
  • Managing your own caseload and maintaining accurate, up-to-date case records using the council’s digital systems.
Qualifications and Experience

You will need a good working knowledge of private sector housing enforcement, including housing defects, repair standards, and relevant legislation. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in private sector housing or a similar regulatory or enforcement role.

Training and Support

You will be supported on a day-to-day basis by Senior Officers and the Team Manager. There will be opportunities to build your skills and experience through internal and external training, including access to CPD and payment of a relevant professional subscription.
