Job summary

A recruitment agency in the East Midlands is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to conduct food hygiene and safety inspections on a pay-per-inspection basis. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Environmental Health and proven experience in food safety interventions. Strong communication skills and IT competence are essential. This role involves conducting around 250 inspections, delivering recommendations, and completing reports within a tight deadline.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Registration with EHRB (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in food safety interventions and enforcement.
  • Strong knowledge of Hazard Analysis and food safety management systems.
  • Flexible to work outside office hours and travel.

Overview

Buckingham Futures is recruiting for Environmental Health Officers to support our Local Authority client in the East Midlands. This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced professionals to carry out food hygiene and safety inspections on a pay-per-inspection basis.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed food hygiene and safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments in line with FSA codes of practice.
  • Deliver clear improvements in standards through advice, instruction, and written correspondence.
  • Complete approximately 250 inspections (covering new businesses and D category premises).
  • Submit inspection proformas and draft electronic reports detailing contraventions, recommendations, and compliance dates within 7 days of inspection.
Location & Pay

Location: East Midlands

Pay Basis: Per inspection

Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health
  • Certificate of Registration with EHRB (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in food safety interventions and enforcement
  • Strong knowledge of Hazard Analysis, risk assessment, and food safety management systems
  • IT competent – Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible to work outside office hours and travel across the borough
