Job description

Software Engineering Manager

(Hands Off Manager role)

Manchester (Once a Fortnight)

Up to £95,000

We are on the lookout for a people focused Engineering Manager to join a growing Tech business whose SaaS products have made a real impact to clients across the music and theatre industry. Their platforms are used globally and as a business are investing heavily in the future of the product.

Due to this continued investment, they are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to help drive performance through fostering a great culture for the software engineering teams to thrive.

What kind of things will you be doing as their Engineering Manager?

  • Working closely with the software engineers, tech lead and product owners. Really understanding what makes them tick, what tools and environment they need to thrive, what their career aspirations are.
  • Encouraging the team to take risks and experiment, if they fail you should encourage them to fail more as it’s the only way to learn, and not be reprimanded for ‘messing up’.
  • Identify and address team issues, with a focus on wellbeing. Able to recognise when fatigue or burnout is creeping in and encouraging people to have a break.
  • Engage in ongoing feedback and development conversations throughout the year and support formal performance evaluation twice yearly.

What you’ll bring:

  • A background as a software developer – you know what’s under the bonnet and can speak the same language.
  • Proven experience managing, mentoring, and training development teams, with a genuine love of coaching over hands-on coding.
  • Bonus points for Microsoft stack experience (C#, .NET, Azure).

What’s in it for you?

  • Up to £95,000 basic salary
  • Hybrid working (Averaging once a fortnight in Manchester office)
  • 27 days hols + Bank hols
  • Enhanced Medical Cover, Maternity/Paternity and similar
  • Huge training budget and home working funding (Get yourself that really expensive keyboard or new monitor that you didn’t see the point in buying unless it was a gift!)
