Position Overview:

The Editorial Director will lead and manage the editorial teams, overseeing content strategy, development, and execution across multiple channels. This role involves shaping the vision for our editorial direction, ensuring that all content aligns with our brand values and meets the highest standards of quality. You will also be a keen writer and want to still be “at the coalface” yourself

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the editorial strategy to meet the organisation’s goals and objectives.
  • Lead and mentor the editorial team, fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration.
  • Oversee the content calendar, ensuring timely delivery of articles, features, and multimedia content.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including audience, social and video teams, to enhance audience engagement and reach.
  • Ensure SEO best practice guidelines are adhered to across all web content.
  • Maintain high editorial standards, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Analyse audience metrics and feedback to refine content strategies and improve performance.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and emerging platforms to keep the organisation at the forefront of media innovation.
  • Manage budgets related to editorial projects and content production.
Qualifications and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field; a master’s degree is a plus.
  • An extremely good understanding of SEO from an editorial standpoint.
  • Proven experience in an editorial leadership role within a media organisation. Preferably on an automotive publication.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent understanding of audience engagement and digital content strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in team management.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools and content management systems.
  • Be very familiar with social media, its uses and how to get the best from it.
  • Competitive salary. Up to £70k + bonus (depending on experience)
