Job description

As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team, as well as part of the wider community within the hospital setting.

Available hours
  • Monday – Friday 13:45 – 20:00 = 30 hrs
  • Monday – Friday 14:00 – 21:00 = 32.5 hrs
  • Monday – Friday 16:00 – 20:00 = 20 hrs
  • Monday – Friday 17:00 – 20:00 = 15 hrs
Entry Requirements

There is no entry requirement to become a domestic assistant, however you may be required to complete NVQ Level 1 in cleaning.

Training

When you start as a domestic you will attend an induction and all relevant training will be given.

Key Skills
  • Good communication skills and a caring, sensitive nature.
  • Physical fitness: you may be on your feet for long periods; knowledge of proper lifting and manual handling techniques is required.
Responsibilities
  • Cleaning patients’ rooms/wards, toilets and bathroom areas.
  • Cleaning communal areas such as lounges, dining areas and corridors.
  • Cleaning utility rooms and carrying out deep‑cleaning operations in specific areas.
  • Using appropriate cleaning equipment (vacuum, mops, electric floor cleaner).
  • Using cleaning products and chemicals safely and effectively.
  • Keeping up to date with safety procedures (fire procedures, escape routes) and undertaking appropriate workplace training.
  • Carrying out specific cleaning duties and other related tasks according to procedures and standards.
  • Ensuring infection control policies are adhered to.
  • Working as part of a team, using initiative to prioritise and organise daily duties whilst maintaining a professional approach.
