Overview

Key Responsibilities

The post holder, with support from the Matron for Maternity Services, will be responsible for the overall management and clinical leadership of community‑based Midwifery Services. The role requires the post holder to be visible and accessible within clinical practice, demonstrating the Trust’s vision and values in all behaviours. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying gaps in service provision and developing strategies to address deficits.
  • Working with the Matron for Maternity Services and Head of Midwifery to ensure the service runs effectively and safely, resolving complex issues proactively.
  • Ensuring compliance with professional standards, Trust objectives, performance targets, quality standards and resource constraints.
  • Acting as a key member of a multi‑professional team, exercising sound leadership and communication skills.
Qualifications
  • Registered midwife.
  • Mentorship qualification / ENB997 or equivalent.
  • Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level, or able to demonstrate evidence of working at degree level / commencement of a degree pathway.
  • UK professional registration in the appropriate band.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience at band 6/7.
Desirable Criteria
  • Leadership or management qualification.
  • Significant recent experience in community midwifery.
  • Detailed experience of leadership and management.
