Overview

Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Walsall

Salary: £35,000 - £50,000 (dependent on experience)

Shift Patterns: 08:00 - 16:30 Monday to Friday

Are you a Design Engineer with experience in Sheet Metal Fabrication? Look no further - we have an excellent opportunity for a talented engineer to join a growing, forward-thinking design team within a well-established fabrication business. This is your chance to work on a wide variety of bespoke and volume-based projects in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to manipulate customer drawings to suit the needs of the production and estimating teams.
  • Lead the design process from initial concept through to final manufacture.
  • Assess customer requirements and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Consult with the Production Manager to understand shop floor capabilities and constraints.
  • Communicate technical designs and drawings effectively across departments.
  • Create comprehensive 3D models and fully detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles - adapting customer designs to suit in-house fabrication processes.
  • Support, create, and maintain CNC programs for punch and laser machines using RADAN.
  • Work across both SolidWorks and RADAN platforms to deliver accurate and production-ready data.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a sheet metal fabrication design environment.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and RADAN
  • Deep understanding of fabrication techniques including folding, punching, and welding.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, manufacturing-ready drawings.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Engineering qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent) in Mechanical, Manufacturing or related discipline.
