Overview

Join the Customer Services Team at University of Nottingham Libraries. You will provide a warm welcome and a great customer experience both in‑person and virtually, working in diverse multicultural settings across our Nottingham campuses.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact, delivering a high‑quality customer experience.
  • Respond to queries and requests from students, academic staff and visitors across multiple libraries.
  • Help students become familiar with library services, especially during induction and other key times of year.
  • Handle unpredictable situations, using strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Maintain proficiency with library systems, IT, printers, AV equipment and other facilities.
  • Show initiative to learn, develop skills and share knowledge with colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Relevant experience in a customer‑focused environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable with technology and quick to adapt to changes in processes.
  • Willingness to learn, develop skills and share knowledge to provide guidance and solutions.
  • Commitment to flexible working, including occasional training outside advertised hours.

Working Hours

Part‑time, fixed‑term positions until 31 July 2026. Each post has a specific timetable and applicants must be able to work all advertised hours.

  • George Green Library – Wednesday 5 pm‑10 pm (27.75 hrs)
  • Business Library – Thursday 5 pm‑10 pm (27.75 hrs)
  • Djanogly Learning Resource Centre – Friday 1 pm‑5 pm (27.75 hrs)
  • Business – Saturday 9 am‑5 pm (27.75 hrs)
  • George Green Library – Sunday 9:15 am‑5 pm (27.75 hrs)

Training may occur outside these hours and includes operating an evacuation chair. One public holiday/University Closure Day per year is required.
