Job summary

A local government authority in Wakefield is seeking a Corporate GIS Officer to develop and deliver the GIS function within the Council. This role involves managing the corporate map base, maintaining key GIS datasets, and supporting the integration of mapping data. The ideal candidate will have a degree in GIS or related fields and substantial experience in data management. Knowledge of GIS software such as MapInfo and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

Job description
Overview

Wakefield Council is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Corporate GIS Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will develop and deliver the corporate Geographical Information Systems (GIS) function within the Council including administration of the Council's core GIS mapping systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the overall integrity of the corporate map base, and be responsible for its effective use across the whole of the GIS landscape.
  • Manage, maintain and develop our key GIS data sets for the intranet, corporate web site and service need such as Land Charge Searches.
  • Develop, maintain and support the integration of map based data into our corporate GIS systems.
  • Assist in the testing of systems upgrades and patches.
  • Provide advice, support and training to council staff on the use of the mapping tools and systems.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications: Educated to degree level in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or related subjects.
  • Experience: Substantial experience in data management, GIS, or a similar role.
Skills
  • High level of knowledge and experience in data capture and editing using leading GIS software packages such as MapInfo.
  • High level of knowledge and experience in using and maintaining corporate Geographical Information systems such as IDOX Location Manager and Precisely's Spectrum Spatial Analyst platform.
  • Good knowledge of Ordnance Survey digital and conventional mapping products.
  • Experience of developing integrations for the sharing of mapping data between corporate and business systems.
  • Good IT knowledge in relational databases and SQL.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
