We are currently looking for a Contracts Manager for our North East Contracting team to lead, guide and direct teams to fully support and drive the Contracting strategy for the region. You will be responsible for the effective delivery of projects, including Motorways Strategy, Operational Business plans and all Operational objectives. This role provides leadership, guidance and direction to ensure all objectives and targets are achieved, ensuring the team maximise financial returns and remain fully compliant with safety and business policies and procedures.

Although this is a regional role and we can be flexible on your location, it will be based at our Birtley office, so needs to be within reasonable travel distance. If you have the experience and skills to successfully deliver this role, then we want to hear from you.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Manager the role of Contracts Manager will be responsible for leading and ensuring delivery of the area operations strategy, driving operational efficiency through business optimise principles of minimising cost and maximising value on all contracts.

The role of Contracts Manager will also be responsible for:

  • Working with Operations manager and Managing QS to ensure submission and weekly review of contract performance including pre and post contract evaluations to aid accurate month end forecasts
  • Developing and maintaining key customer and supply chain relationships via regular communication and visits
  • Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to reduce delays and the cost to serve customers via accurate weekly, monthly and 6 monthly forecasts for all contracts
  • Contributing to the improvement of turnover and volumes and helping to secure a long‑term work bank by building relationships with key existing and new clients in your area, engaging with commercial teams, supporting key tenders and liaising with clients
  • Driving the operational strategy, ensuring all operational activities comply with safety and business policies and procedures and are delivered within the required budget
  • Driving the effective management of any exposure to both financial and risk, maximising financial return on all contracts and ensuring prompt cash collection within contract provisions
  • Actively involving self in the resolution of contract disputes to maximise sustainable profit and cash flow
  • Effective management, coaching and development of all direct reports providing coaching, mentoring as necessary
  • Promoting sustainable products and working methods with clients to reduce carbon
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Contracts Manager will possess in depth experience in a similar role managing construction work within the contracting market including surfacing and asphalt experience. You will also have proven experience of managing teams effectively for performance and growth, along with an excellent track record of client interface.

Suitable candidates for the role of Contracts Manager will also have:
  • Product and operational technical knowledge with strong, effective operational experience
  • Solid commercial knowledge and understanding with experience of estimating and costing systems
  • Working knowledge of compliance and Quality Assurance requirements
  • Strong communication skills engaging at all levels with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build and create vision for success
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Certified
  • Higher Education qualification (HND/HNC Level or Degree) advantageous
  • IT literate Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
