A large healthcare provider in the UK seeks a full-time Consultant in Older Adult Psychiatry. This permanent role involves providing acute psychiatric services, consulting with care homes, and teaching medical students. Candidates must have completed their CCT and hold AMP status. The position includes on-call duties and offers flexible working arrangements.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
This is a full-time permanent post (40 hours) to be worked Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 with on call.
Full-time Consultant position (10 Programmed Activities, or 10PA) in Older Adult Psychiatry is open to candidates who have completed or are within six months of completing their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and hold Section 22 Approved Medical Practitioner (AMP) status.
Inpatient beds are located at Ward 4, Larkfield Unit, Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Continuing Care beds are at Orchard View Unit on the hospital grounds.
Two other Consultant posts cover the hospital and community, excluding care homes, which are under the remit of this post. The Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) consists of Mental Health Officers (MHOs) and social workers, operating as an integrated team from Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Crown House (Greenock).
The post holder is expected to have recognition of trainer status. Resident doctors are frequently appointed to OPMH Inverclyde. There is opportunity for higher trainer status with support if desired. The post holder will be expected to be involved with teaching medical students from Glasgow University.
Participation in the South Glasgow on-call rota (minimum 1:25), with a higher trainee present until 3am daily. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed. Additional EPAs (Extra Programmed Activities) may be available, depending on service needs and job planning.
