We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team at HMP Belmarsh, a Category A Prison located in South East London. The prison houses around 675 patients with a range of needs, including highly complex and acute mental health. In this role you will be supporting high‑profile patients across our general population and a 33‑bed inpatient ward service.

We are looking for a dynamic Psychiatrist who is flexible in the way they work, adapts quickly, and can build rapport with both officers and patients while working alongside matrons to lead the team.

Hours

Monday to Friday, 9am‑5pm. Part‑time is possible on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Salary

This part‑time role offers an annual salary up to £196,840 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.

Main Duties
  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the on‑site caseload
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi‑professional complex case reviews

Qualifications Required
  • Registered professional with current GMC registration
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the MHS 1983
  • Understanding of the complexities of multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorders
  • Awareness of current mental health service provision, policy and legislation
