A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are delighted to offer this exciting opportunity for a Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist to join the paediatric oncology team within the Children and Young People’s Cancer Service. This is one of four substantive Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Oncologist posts within our service, brought about by a radical workforce redesign that aims to improve attractiveness and sustainability of working practices.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague to join our team delivering expert care to children and young people with cancer. Specifically, we require a demonstrable interest in late effects. The role will also include supporting clinical oncologists to deliver proton‑beam radiotherapy to external patients – in a complementary area of specialism such as brain tumours, rare tumours or sarcoma. Attending and on‑call cover of paediatric oncology and teenage in‑patients is a core part of the post.
The job plan will contain 7 programmed activities per week to be carried out on UCLH sites:
There will be options for additional PAs through Trust leadership and management roles or by participating in private practice.
UCLH is one of the largest late effects services for adult survivors of childhood and adolescent/young adult cancer in the UK and likely in Europe. The service offers risk stratified follow‑up ranging from monthly multi-disciplinary clinics to patient initiated follow‑up and echo technician‑led care. We have weekly nurse‑led transition clinics and specialist clinics for retinoblastoma. We have a monthly MDT to discuss transition and complex patients at UCLH as well as a GOSH transition MDT monthly. The successful candidate would be given the opportunity to take the lead on a chosen area of interest in late effects.
The unique cohort of referred patients within the UCLH Children and Young People’s Cancer Service (CYPCS) provides an opportunity to be exposed to a complex cohort of rare cancers and the successful candidate is also given the opportunity to develop expertise in other tumour types.
