Responsibilities
  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, and execution, ensuring quality, safety, and on-time delivery.
  • Manage team coordination, report on project progress, and support senior leadership in decision-making.
  • Handle staff recruitment, development, and performance management.
  • Provide support in securing new work opportunities and ensure construction input for housebuilding and partner delivery schemes.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Director to minimise risks and ensure design approval for new schemes.

  • Drive a culture of safety, health, and environmental excellence, using SHE data to implement continuous improvements.
  • Oversee WIP release processes and ensure deliverables meet quality standards and project milestones.
  • Promote cross-department collaboration to ensure timely project execution and minimize delays.
  • Engage with the supply chain and work closely with the Customer Service Director to ensure high service levels.
  • Hold responsibility for the quality of homes built, with regular reports to regional boards.
  • Manage recruitment, induction, and performance appraisals, ensuring a discrimination-free workplace and adherence to company policies.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • We are seeking an Operations/Construction Director or Head of Construction/Operations or equivalent with extensive experience.
  • A strong operations and commercial leader with a proven track record on new build housing contracts and multi-story residential schemes (£5m-£60m).
  • Experience with PLC policies and procedures relating to SHE, Quality, and Employment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction methodologies from inception to project completion.
  • Understanding and competence in programme management and software; proficient IT systems usage to support processes and customer service.
  • Knowledge of SHE procedures and policies.
  • Team player with the ability to contribute to the business unit board; innovative thinker capable of driving positive change.
  • Focus on achieving programme milestones and business success.

Desirable:

  • Degree qualification in Construction Management / Project Management.
  • Management/Leadership Training (e.g., ILM).
