Job description
Overview

We welcome applications for the Smokefree Team at South London and Maudsley. The advertised role is based at The Pier Road Project, a community drug and alcohol advice and treatment service for adults living in the London Borough of Bexley. This role provides a development opportunity to support people accessing treatment via The Pier Road Project who are tobacco dependent to cut down and quit smoking. This is a new service, and there is scope for the successful candidate to shape and inform how to provide the best route to care for people that are referred.

Responsibilities
  1. Treatment Provision
    • Deliver evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment through one-to-one, group, and drop-in sessions.
    • Carry out comprehensive assessments and recommend appropriate stop smoking medications or alternatives (e.g., vapes).
    • Work flexibly across multiple sites, including patient accommodation, using digital tools like text messaging to enhance support.
    • Collaborate with clinical teams, carers, and families to tailor treatment plans.
    • Maintain safe use and stock control of treatment equipment, especially vapes.
  2. Service Development
    • Contribute to the implementation and success of SLaM’s Smokefree Policy and strategic goals to reduce smoking.
    • Collect and manage service data to support evaluation and improvement.
    • Act as a resource for staff, offering guidance and signposting where needed.
    • Support research initiatives and help recruit participants for smokefree-related studies.
  3. Leadership and Supervision
    • Serve as a role model and ambassador for the Smokefree Programme.
    • Share best practices and attend regular supervision and training.
    • Support the development of colleagues and promote smoking cessation training.
  4. Communication
    • Engage regularly with a wide range of stakeholders including patients, carers, nursing and medical staff, service managers, and researchers.
    • Maintain clear, respectful, and inclusive communication across all interactions.
  5. Personal and Professional Development
    • Stay up to date with the latest evidence and innovations in tobacco dependence treatment.
    • Participate in training, supervision, and professional networks.
    • Uphold ethical standards and respect the diverse backgrounds of patients and staff.
