Commercial Manager (Sizewell C)

Civil Works Alliance – Sizewell C

We are recruiting for an accomplished commercial leader to join the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) as we deliver Sizewell C – an iconic project that will generate 3.2 gigawatts of low‑carbon electricity, supplying around 6 million UK homes for at least 60 years. This is your opportunity to be part of a collaborative team shaping one of the nation’s most ambitious infrastructure ventures.

As a senior commercial professional within the CWA, you will drive value, efficiency and high standards across every stage of this landmark project. Your work will underpin both the successful delivery of Sizewell C and the Alliance’s reputation as a centre of industry excellence.

A Commercial Manager is responsible for managing the commercial aspects of a Section or major part of the SZC Civil Works Alliance scope, from setting the Target Outturn Cost (TOC) to project delivery and final financial closure. They play an important role within the project’s commercial team, helping to ensure the project is financially successful.

The role involves tasks such as risk management, procurement, financial reporting, and managing the supply chain. Commercial Managers are experienced individuals who have developed strong skills in commercial awareness, client communication, project management, and team coordination. They also possess a solid understanding of the construction industry and are flexible and skilled negotiators. Typically they have a good track record of managing smaller commercial teams and may be working toward becoming a Chartered Member of RICS, ICES or CIOB, acting as mentors for other team members aiming to gain professional qualifications.

In this role, you will:
  • Place health and safety at the forefront of all decisions and champion sustainability across the project
  • Ensure your team follows all CWA processes, procedures and governance standards
  • Identify new efficiency opportunities and proactively respond to project requirements
  • Analyse the economic landscape and advise on impacts for the project and wider construction sector
  • Provide commercial input to value engineering and alternative methods of construction
  • Share commercial data effectively with all relevant teams and maximise digital solutions for better outcomes
  • Regularly review commercial and cost data to assure accuracy and identify any issues early
  • Support the preparation of Target Outturn Costs (TOCs), earned value data and monthly project performance reports
  • Deliver concise commercial updates to the Delivery Leadership Team and represent CWA interests in project meetings
  • Assist with procurement planning and supply chain management, supporting procurement, estimating and surveying teams
  • Ensure subcontract agreements are properly managed, change management is administered in line with contract, and disputes are minimised
  • Identify supply chain issues and monitor risk and opportunity impacts on cost forecasts
  • Ensure costs are recovered as defined cost and manage disallowed costs
  • Provide constructive feedback and development opportunities for team members, and work collaboratively with all CWA functions to deliver project objectives
We are looking for:
  • A relevant degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar
  • Strong stakeholder management experience, particularly with external suppliers
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in presenting complex commercial matters
  • In‑depth understanding of construction law and proven management and leadership abilities
  • Strong teamwork and a track record of effective working within matrix organisations
It would be beneficial if you also have:
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members with clear development plans
  • MRICS or similar professional accreditation
  • Experience working with NEC3/4 contracts

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home‑grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK’s nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low‑carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low‑carbon electricity to meet 7 % of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skill areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind‑boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.

We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero‑carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
