Job description

We are currently looking to expand our clinical workforce. We are seeking applications from psychiatrists with an interest in managinghealthcare professionals and/or with experience of managing addictions. We areasking for a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week.

As a key member of the NHS PH team, you will provide care to PH patients,participating as a core team member carrying out triage for new contacts andreferrals, assessments of new patients, ongoing case management and liaisonwith other providers who might be involved in the care of the patients. Youwill be responsible for managing a caseload of sick health professionals,assessing risk and providing holistic support to manage their programme ofcare. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes GPs, psychiatrists,specialist nurses, and therapists.

Job responsibilities

Job Summary

Thekey job functions are threefold as described in the Health for HealthProfessionals HHP Competency Framework.

  • First contact care andassessment for patients referred for care
  • Participation in unplannedcare rota to manage urgent requests during office hours
  • Continuingcare and referral to a range of clinical interventions as appropriate, such asCBT and group therapy
  • Referral for specialistassessment or treatment
  • Assessment of particularphysical health needs
  • Specific substance misusetreatment and therapeutic monitoring
  • Case management
  • Management of specific mentalhealth disorders
  • Writing relevant reports andliaison with regulators

Educationand Liaison may include:

  • Providingadvice and liaison to other practitioners through non-facetoface orfacetoface contact, in the management of those problems/conditions
  • Providingsupport and training to other health and related practitioners in areas relatedto a. prevention b. identification and c). brief intervention of mentalhealth/addiction problems in health professionals d. self-care and wellbeing
  • Participating in educationand training activities
  • Liaising with otherpractitioners involved in the care of practitioner patients
  • Appraisal tailored to theneeds of a non-working clinician
  • Leadership/ServiceDevelopment - roles will include ensuring dissemination of knowledge, promotingPH services and advising on practitioner health issues and may include:
  • Involvement with researchinto issues relating to practitioner-patients and the effectiveness of clinicalinterventions
  • Developing links with otherprofessional groups and support services for the effective shared care ofpractitioner patients
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered with the GMC; hold a license to practice (ideally in current clinical practice
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Additional clinical training/qualifications in managing Substance Misuse.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of postgraduate study in sub-stance misuse or other specialist psychiatric experience in a related field e.g. eating disorders
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in specialty
  • Wide range of experience of specialist and sub-specialist experience in mental health and/or addiction
  • Empathy and an understanding of distressed health and care professionals many of whom will have been reluctant to contact the service
  • Experience of producing reports, assessments and presentations involving highly complex information.
  • Experience of providing, receiving and processing sensitive or contentious information and communicating this effectively.
  • Experience of building and developing effective working relationships and networking with senior professionals
  • Experience of working with sick health professionals
