Overview

Clinical Fellow (SPR) in Cardiology & Cardio-Oncology at Royal Brompton Hospital - Cardio-Oncology Centre of Excellence.

An exciting 12-month opportunity to join one of the world's leading cardio-oncology services. Established in 2011, the service receives hundreds of referrals annually and was awarded Gold Centre of Excellence status by the International Cardio-Oncology Society in 2022.

This fellowship offers hands-on experience in managing cardiovascular complications in cancer patients across inpatient and outpatient settings, with opportunities in research, audit, and service development. Fellows will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including leading consultants, nurse specialists, and research staff.

Requirements - Full GMC registration (prior to application), MRCP (UK) or equivalent, with general cardiology training highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

The Cardio-Oncology fellow will join the multidisciplinary team at Royal Brompton Hospital, working closely with Dr Alexander Lyon (clinical lead), Professor Rosen, Dr Sohaib Nazir, nurse specialists, a cardio-oncology GP, research and clinical fellows, research nurses, and admin staff.

The fellow will gain experience in both outpatient and inpatient cardio-oncology and general cardiology care. They will prepare and present new referrals at the weekly Cardio-Oncology MDT and help manage inpatients, including those admitted for investigations or acute care, as well as cancer patients with cardiovascular issues in partner hospitals.

Key responsibilities include maintaining the Cardio-Oncology database, reviewing clinical correspondence, and liaising with the team on patient care. The fellow will also be involved in audit, research, and the preparation of abstracts or publications.

Additionally, the fellow will work alongside specialist registrars within the Heart Division and Heart Failure team, contributing to broader cardiology services.

Job responsibilities

To be part of the cardio-oncology & cardiology service at Royal Brompton Hospital in collaboration with medical and surgical colleagues and other departments and services.

Participate in new patient and follow-up consultant-led outpatient clinics.

Provide inpatient services to cardio-oncology and cardiology patients.

Participate in an on-call rota covering inpatient activity and emergency work.

Supervise and train junior staff allocated to cardiology.

To work as a full member of the multi-disciplinary team, including participation in the rota and the attendance and presentation at weekly MDTs and meetings.

To undertake regular ward rounds to ensure effective management during the in- patient stay and early discharge of patients whenever possible.

Participate in audit within the department and maintain the cardio-oncology database.

Participate fully in the service and training programme of the Division.

Perform bedside transthoracic echocardiography when on call.

Support the cardio-oncology service and liaise with oncology partners at other hospitals.
