Job summary

A local healthcare provider in Coventry is seeking a Children's Carer (Band 3) to deliver care and support to children and young people with complex health needs. The role requires working flexible hours, including shifts at various settings. Children's Carer - Band 3

An exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join The Birches Respite Team has become available. The team provides healthcare and support to children and young people with complex health needs across a variety of settings within the community. The service provides care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so a willingness to work shifts, including night shifts, is essential.

You will be supported to learn clinical skills such as tracheostomy care, gastrostomy feeding, suction (etc) utilising a competency‑based framework. Once competent and confident, you will be expected to work without direct supervision within the scope of your training.

Main duties of the job

As a children’s carer, your role will be delivering health care and support to children and young people in a variety of settings. This could mean providing hands‑on care in the family home, supporting a child or young person to attend school or staffing the respite unit. The ability to travel independently during working time is essential.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver health care and support to children and young people in a variety of settings, including family homes, schools and the respite unit.
  • Provide hands‑on care in the family home, support attendance at school and staff the respite unit.
  • Travel independently during working time.
  • Learn and apply clinical skills such as tracheostomy care, gastrostomy feeding, suction using a competency‑based framework.
  • Work without direct supervision once competent and confident.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Hold or willing to work towards English and Maths Grade 4‑9 or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Hold a level 3 or equivalent healthcare or childcare related qualification or equivalent experience in child or healthcare
Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to stay calm in stressful situations
  • Basic IT skills
Experience
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience working with children or young people who require long‑term ventilation or have complex health needs would be beneficial but not essential
Other
  • Willingness to undertake training and competencies relevant to the role
  • Flexibility with working patterns
  • Car owner/driver, or suitable alternative transport to enable you to undertake the job - and be prepared to be insured for business use.
