Job description
Overview

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Plymouth - £: Six figure package with exceptional benefits and potential equity

If you think that all high-profile recruitment assignments should carry a job description within the advertising blurb, we're going to disappoint. A quick google search will deliver the generic templates that you're after, none of which will be particularly applicable to this opportunity. Why? Firstly, we think that an experienced Chief Financial Officer operating at this level will already appreciate that no two roles will ever be the same because no two businesses are ever the same. Secondly, this is a brand-new opportunity where you\'ll be building and developing the value of your own position from the ground up. No bullet-pointed job description is going to be relevant or to do the opportunity justice.

Trial Balance Consulting are delighted to commence the new year with one of the most interesting and exciting exclusive client assignments that we\'ve seen for some time in the Southwest. A role of pivotal responsibility but with infinite opportunity, particularly given that the recruiting business is evidently poised for supersonic growth. The role works to support a group of two well established and closely linked specialist services businesses with an excellent trading record and a robust future business model.

We\'ve spent considerable time discussing the post with members of the board and senior management team. Their passion and enthusiasm for the business is infectious and this has undoubtedly been the reason that they now employ almost 120 employed and 80 self-employed staff with turnover well in excess of £30M and plans to quadruple over the next five years! They work in conjunction with an impressive panel of future-proof household named PLCs and this niche means that their marketing is largely taken care of.

This success has created an opportunity for another chief to join the board. This is, as you would expect, a senior level appointment where the successful candidate will be well versed in spinning multiple plates in relation to all aspects of the financial health and development of the business. This will entail really getting to grips with day to day financial management of the group, the care and development of stakeholders, financial modelling, statutory/regulatory accounting, working closely with the business owners and a critical element of the role; developing a portfolio of product funding organisations. This is both a strategic, operational and entirely commercial opportunity where you\'ll use your in-depth experience to lead and influence your colleagues across all areas of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day financial management of the group and support the development of financial strategy.
  • Care for and develop relationships with stakeholders.
  • Develop financial models and oversee statutory/regulatory accounting.
  • Work closely with business owners and leadership to drive commercial growth.
  • Develop a portfolio of product funding organisations.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across the finance function.

What we\'re looking for

  • Professionally qualified individual (likely trained within a top 10 firm).
  • Accomplished CFO or exceptional Finance Director/Group FD ready for a substantial step up.
  • Experience across services, retail or financial services is acceptable; sector experience is not strictly required.
  • Strong people skills and a capacity to integrate with a small, collaborative team (4-5 staff) where opinions are heard at all levels.
  • Ability to develop and nurture a family-like team culture.
