Job description
Overview

Are you passionate about good food, great service, and building something purposeful from the ground up? Age UK Plymouth has launched a brand-new café, Time and Again, and we’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Catering Supervisor to bring it to life. This is a unique opportunity to help grow a vibrant, welcoming café that serves both our Day Centre clients and the wider community. You’ll be part of a supportive, friendly team and a driving force behind this exciting new venture, shaping how Time and Again looks, feels, and functions, using your creativity and experience to build engagement, increase sales, and make it a place people want to return to – time and again.

About the Role

As Catering Supervisor, you’ll take the lead on the daily running of Time and Again, ensuring a warm, inclusive customer experience in the café and high-quality, nutritious meals for clients attending our Day Centre. This is a very active, hands-on role where you’ll be on the café floor, helping serve food and drinks, supporting your team, and engaging with customers. You’ll also manage day-to-day administration behind the scenes: rotas, stock ordering, meal tracking, till reconciliation, food hygiene, and compliance. You’ll be working Wednesday to Saturday, helping create consistency and energy during the café’s key opening days.

Responsibilities
  • Lead by example – actively work on the café floor, supporting the team and engaging with customers.
  • Oversee daily meal service for Day Centre clients, ensuring all dietary requirements are met.
  • Manage and support a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming environment across café and dining areas.
  • Handle stock control, ordering, budget tracking, and daily cash management.
  • Promote teamwork and strong communication across kitchen, café, and care teams.
  • Take initiative to build customer engagement and help increase footfall and sales.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience in hospitality or catering (ideally in a supervisory or team lead role).
  • A warm, approachable personality with excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A proactive attitude – someone who thrives in busy, people-focused environments.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety regulations (or willingness to train).
  • Passion for working in a community setting, especially with older people.
Why Join Us
  • Be part of something new and exciting – help grow Time and Again café from the ground up.
  • Work with a trusted, well-established local charity.
  • Join a caring, inclusive workplace that truly values its team.
  • Weekday/weekend hours with no late nights (Weds–Sat).
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Make a real difference to people’s lives, every single day.

The wellbeing of our employees is a priority, so we have the following benefits:

  • On top of the 5.6 weeks annual leave with Age UK Plymouth your annual leave will also increase by an additional day with each year of service for the 1st 5 years.
  • Company sick pay is available after successful completion of the probationary period.
  • We have an Employee Assistance Programme with Bupa.
  • Wellbeing courses
  • Social events.
