Overview

We are recruiting an ambitious Building Surveyor Lead to join our Project & Programme Services team in the Northeast. Based in Newcastle and reporting to the Director responsible for the office, you will help set the business plan and steward its delivery. This role involves managing and planning resources, leading innovation, setting quality and fostering a collaborative, professional and positive working environment. It will also involve significant local business development activity and interaction with other offices in the region. Your responsibilities
  • Expert understanding and ability to advise clients knowledgeably on the component parts of a project and overall building surveying techniques.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the wider AtkinsRéalis business outside your own role, with detailed knowledge of the service/sector you support, and be recognised as an expert both internally and externally.
  • Prepare and critically review written communications to a high standard. Effectively use the organisation's policies, systems and processes.
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office and other role-related software packages.
  • Undertake operational management tasks, including resources and workload planning, financial performance, quality assurance and business development.
  • Support the Director in defining the sub-region business plan and manage delivery of the plan, with accountability for aspects of plan achievement.
  • Set service quality standards and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement. Responsible for account management and customer care for clients.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to ensure high-quality marketing and promotional materials.
  • Influence and assist in strategic decision-making within the sub-region, balancing resources with workload.
  • Collaborate with other offices, service streams, sectors and the wider SNC-L group to provide integrated and innovative solutions that improve competitive advantage. Liaise with graduate recruitment, APC programmes, and staff development.
What You Can Bring
  • B.Sc. (Hons) in Building Surveying or a similar RICS-accredited degree. Chartered status highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of the industry in the Northeast with a recognised profile across the region.
  • Experience in a senior level role with interaction across the wider Regional and Building Surveying business.
  • Experience in sectors including Local Authority, Higher Education, Healthcare, Residential and Industry.
  • Experience of working in a large consultancy or client organisation.
  • Detailed knowledge of competitors and market differentiators. Strategic vision of the market with ability to leverage market conditions.
  • Business development skills, understanding the external market and forward workload in the Northeast and wider North region.
  • Proven track record of winning and developing new business opportunities. Extensive experience in preparing bids and tendering.
  • Proven team management skills and experience.
  • Full understanding of Health and Safety requirements and Statutory Compliance.

  • Ability to win repeat work while developing relationships with new clients to achieve new business.
  • Appreciation of clients’ business drivers and commercial interests.
  • Confident business development skills and understanding of the external market and forward workload in your region and sector/service.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team delivering projects effectively financially and to understand the financial management system for projects.
