Job description

The North and East Devon Breast Screening Service has an eligible population of approximately 180,000 women who are invited to screening over a 3-year screening round. The static breast screening unit is located at Matford Business Centre providing a screening and assessment service. Screening is also carried out on two mobile units covering a geographical area including 19 sites throughout North and East Devon which include supermarket car parks, local council car parks and hospital sites. Screening patients are referred to the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust for surgical and oncological treatments.

As Breast Care Nurse at InHealth, you will champion and provide professional nursing care in the support of women undergoing breast assessment investigations, ensuring they are fully supported and receive the best possible care.

Job responsibilities
  • Breast Care Nurse

  • Location: Exeter, Devon

  • Hours: 21.6 hours per week (MondayWednesday)

  • Provide professional nursing care, reassurance, and support to women undergoing breast assessment investigations

  • Identify women who may need extra support and guide them with clarity and compassion through treatment pathways

  • Offer emotional and practical support to patients and their families, signposting or referring when appropriate

  • Support patients at high familial risk of breast cancer with clear, evidence-based advice

  • Ensure patients have the right information to make informed decisions about their treatment

  • Act as a trusted resource for colleagues, sharing knowledge and promoting best practice

  • Champion patient-centred care across our screening service area

What were looking for
  • An experienced RGN (with at least 5 years post-qualifying experience)

  • Skilled in supporting women through the challenges of diagnosis and treatment

  • An excellent communicator, empathetic, professional, and confident in handling sensitive conversations

  • Organised, adaptable, and able to prioritise effectively in a busy clinical environment

  • A strong team player who can also work independently

  • Committed to maintaining high standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and patient care

It would be a bonus if you have knowledge of NBSS systems, the NHS Breast Screening Programme, or Breast Cancer Care guidelines but this isnt essential.
