ScotWays (The Scottish Rights of Way & Access Society) is an independent charity which has been upholding publicaccess rights since 1845. We are seeking Directors with the time, commitment and passion to contribute activelyto ScotWays’ work. If you would like to help defend and promote Scotland's outdoor access rights, this couldbe the ideal role for you!

We are the experts on Scottish outdoor access law and support others to uphold the public’s rights of access to landand inland water, providing information to the public, local and national government, and landowners. Wedeveloped and maintain the Catalogue of Rights of Way (CROW), a database of information on routes acrossScotland. With assistance from our volunteers, we install and maintain over 3000 directional signs on tracks andpaths.

Our publications include The Law of Access to Land in Scotland, the comprehensive guide to outdoor access law, andScottish Hill Tracks, a unique resource for walkers, cyclists, riders and runners wishing to explore the networkof paths, old roads and rights of way which criss-cross Scotland’s hill country.

We are a small charity with eight staff and an office in central Edinburgh. Our board of trustees is responsible forthe strategic leadership and governance of the Society.

We are looking for skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Strategic management
  • Organisational change
  • External communications and/or publicrelations
  • Law
  • Digital
  • HumanResources
  • Land management
  • On-the-ground access experience
  • Working with government, bothlocal and central.

Board meetings are held in Edinburgh five times a year. Attendance can be in person or remotely and we welcomedirectors from across Scotland. As well as attending Board meetings and our AGM, directors are expected to joinand assist with the work of one or two sub-committees.

Previous experience of being on a board, love of the outdoors and a knowledge of Scotland's outdoor access rightsis useful, but not essential.

Empty Kitchens Full Hearts SCIO aims to relieve poverty in Edinburgh by providing meals using surplus food andfollow-up support to people across the city, free of charge, and without judgement. Established in 2020 we haveprovided over 2 million meals.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking to recruit 3 Trustees who will contribute their energy, enthusiasm and expertise to our organisation.Prior experience as a Trustee is not necessary. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference inpeople’s lives by supporting an essential service in Edinburgh.

1.Treasurer Trustee:

We are seeking a candidate who is either a qualified accountant or has substantive accounting expertise, preferablywith knowledge of the third sector. Ideally the postholder will have the capacity to work closely with theExecutive Team in order to ensure the Board is fully conversant in ongoing matters of finance.

2. Trustee with Expertise in Marginalised Communities:

We are seeking an individual with significant professional experience and a deep understanding of the challenges andneeds of marginalised communities. This could include expertise in areas such as social justice, communitydevelopment, inclusion, advocacy, or direct work with specific underrepresented groups. Your insights will becrucial in ensuring our services are truly accessible, responsive, and impactful for all.

3. Trustee with Fundraising & Network Leveraging Expertise:

We are looking for a Trustee who possesses a strong track record of generating income and building awareness throughtheir professional and personal networks. This is not a technical fundraising role, but rather an opportunityfor someone who can strategically open doors, make introductions, and advocate for our mission to potentialfunders, partners, and influential individuals. Your ability to leverage your network will be vital in expandingour reach and securing the resources needed to grow our impact. A candidate with an established background infundraising and income generation is desirable.

About Empty Kitchens Full Hearts

Empty Kitchens Full Hearts SCIO aims to relieve poverty in Edinburgh by providing meals -made using surplus food -and follow-up support to people across the city, free of charge, and without judgement. Established in 2020, wehave provided over 2 million meals to those in need. Empty Kitchens Full Hearts is led by a dedicated andpassionate board of trustees who are collectively responsible for the governance and strategic direction of theorganisation. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join this board and make a real difference to people acrossEdinburgh.

About the role

Our Trustees support all aspects of our work, with the aim of providing strategic support, governance and assurancethat enables us to continue to deliver our core services. They are there to lead, control and supervise theorganisation’s activities.

The time commitment for this voluntary, unpaid role is an average of 1-2 days a month. There will be a requirement toattend our quarterly board meetings and participate in ad hoc working groups. If you feel you have valuableexperience and skills to contribute to the Empty Kitchens Full Hearts mission and would like to use yourprofessional experience for good, we would love to hear from you.

Ways of Working:

  • Trustees will leverage their networks, knowledge and experience to support Empty Kitchens Full Hearts, particularly in areas such as food insecurity and fundraising.
  • Trustees are encouraged to volunteer with the charity in roles such as kitchen assistant, packing and delivery of food.
  • Trustees are required to attend a minimum of 4 Board meetings a year and should also be willing to sit on working groups as required.
  • Meetings are typically 2 hours in duration and are set out up to 12 months in advance. Board meetings are mainly in person at our premises in Granton, but may occasionally be held online.
  • Trustees will build strong working relationships with the Chair, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and supporters.

At Richmond’s Hope, we provide vital support to bereaved children & young people aged 4–18. Through therapeuticplay, one-to-one sessions, and tailored support for families, our services help young people across Scotlandnavigate their grief in a safe, nurturing space. As we grow and expand our reach, we’re seeking Trustees who canoffer expertise in areas such as:

ACE IT Scotland is a thriving Edinburgh-based charity established in 2005. In the past year, the charity deliveredover 4,000 sessions supporting people aged over 50 to gain digital skills and build the confidence to navigatemodern society. We are supported by a small team of staff, over 40 volunteers, and a committed Board ofTrustees.

With the planned retirement of our current Chair in late 2025, ACE IT Scotland is seeking a new Chair to lead theBoard into 2028 and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to guide a dynamic charity at a time when digitalinclusion is more important than ever.

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development of theStrategy 2028
  • Safeguard the charity’s values, reputation, and financial stability
  • Plan for Boardrecruitment and renewal

Governance Oversight

  • Coordinate and support the Board of Trustees
  • Monitor implementation of Board decisions

Board Facilitation

  • Chair quarterly Board meetings and the AGM
  • Set meeting agendas with the Manager
  • Leadconstructive discussions and ensure decisions are recorded
  • Support Board performance anddevelopment

Staff Support

  • Line manage the Manager, including performance reviews
  • Provide occasional constructive support tostaff
  • Ensure clear reporting between staff and Board

External Representation

  • Represent ACE IT Scotland at external events
  • Advocate for the charity’s mission and values
  • Stayinformed on sector developments

Time Commitment

The Chair is expected to serve a minimum term of 3 years, with an average commitment of 4–5 hours per month. Thisincludes meeting preparation, attendance, and ad hoc responsibilities.

  • Lead quarterly Board meetings (currently Mondays, 10am–12pm, in person at the ACE IT office inEdinburgh)
  • Lead the AGM (last held online in June 2025)
  • Meet with Trustees as needed (includingannual reviews)
  • Attend occasional development sessions
  • Participate in relevant sub-committeese.g., Finance, HR, Fundraising, Strategy & Planning (the Chair is not expected to attend all ofthese)

Person Specification

  • Experience in governance and strategic leadership
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills withtact and diplomacy
  • Understanding of charity finance and compliance in line withregulations
  • Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team
  • Sector knowledge (charity, social care, older people)

South Ayrshire Women’s Aid provides information, support, advocacy and refuge for women, children and young peoplewith experience of domestic abuse. We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
