Overview

Applications are invited for a newly created position of Biophysics Technical Lead working in the Biophysics Facility to underpin world-class studies in molecular biophysics, including the latest optical tweezers technology. The facility is housed in the Department of Biochemistry, Sanger Building, on the Old Addenbrookes Site in Cambridge City Centre, serving researchers across the Schools of the Biological and the Physical Sciences, as well as academics from further afield and local biotechnology companies. The role will maximise the efficient and effective delivery of research projects by providing high level instrument support, advice, training, maintenance and a welcoming environment for this diverse group of scientists.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high level instrument support, advice, training and maintenance for biophysics equipment.
  • Support and train users, fostering a welcoming environment for a diverse group of scientists.
  • Identify and contribute to the adoption of new technologies and techniques in molecular biophysics, and support current technologies.
  • Work with the academic lead, research group funded postdocs, technicians and administrators to provide proactive support that evolves with user needs.
  • Ensure effective delivery of research projects and act as an outward-facing technical resource to a wide range of groups.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Excellent underpinning knowledge of Biophysics theory and experience with at least one current specialist technology used in this field.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new techniques, apply them and support training at the cutting edge of the subject area.
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills and a self-motivated approach to ongoing personal training and development.
  • Willingness to interact with users to identify new transformative technologies and support current ones.
