Band 7 SLT Clinical Education Lead - Dysphagia

Are you a highly specialist Dysphagia SLT with a special interest and passion for supporting colleagues to develop?

Are you passionate about the latest development and research in SLT and promoting and sharing good practice with SLT colleagues and partners.

Have you got experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-agency team in clinical and education settings?

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward thinking community team, acting as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist supporting training needs and holding a clinical caseload.

We have a number of SLTS who are developing their dysphagia skills and provide placements for many students and so need a dedicated member of the team to oversee, supervise and support their ongoing training needs in the area of Dysphagia.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the identification of training needs of team members, other professionals and deliver training in the highly specialist area.

To take delegated responsibility for ensuring high quality speech and language therapy post registration paediatric dysphagia training and competence, across the city, in conjunction with the Advanced Specialists and Professional Lead.

To be the lead clinician for the education of clinical SLT staff and students in the area of Dysphagia.

To provide Speech and Language Therapyat a highly specialist level, functioning in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people known to the service.

Job responsibilities

• To organise and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training and competency attainment
• Keep abreast of the national training agenda including AHP workforce, Apprenticeship programmes and RCSLT developments to inform training plans and development.
• Develop close working links with Professional Education and development, Health Education England (HEE) Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and RCSLT
• Carrying out specialist assessments. Developing and implementing a range of programmes of care and treatment to meet the needs of the clients, families and their environments in accordance with agreed pathways and packages of care in specialist area
• Negotiating with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and carers with reference to case management of complex cases including instigating appropriate referrals as appropriate
• As requested, to use specialist knowledge together with analysis of relevant data in the clinical area in order to contribute in matters of service delivery in the specialist clinical area and provide evidence for clinical outcomes

Person Specification

Qualifications

• oFirst degree level qualification, relevant to service area
• oHCPC Licence to practice,Full Membership of Professional body, relevant to service area
• oRelevant training in specialist area e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification, Sensory-Integration, neurological rehabilitation

Experience

• oExtensive experience of diagnostic assessment and intervention in specialist area of service
• oRelevant experience of using leadership skills for service development
• oSignificant experience in providing support and supervision to undergraduate students, colleagues and other professionals and successfully supporting colleagues through post registration dysphagia training and competence

skills and knowledge

• oCompetent in using evidence base to inform clinical decisions and best practice in specialist clinical area
• oKnowledge of the needs of a diverse social and ethnic population and the impact on all aspects of service provision
• oAbility to work collaboratively with staff at all levels within the boundaries of the role and clinical competence
