Job description
Responsibilities
  • The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs for all patients, ensuring appropriately planned care is implemented and evaluated.
  • Provide specialist advice without direct supervision and lead the multidisciplinary team in the absence of the Team Leader.
  • Assist in the leadership and development of an identified group of practitioners within the Department.
  • Comply with the NMC or HCPC Code of Professional conduct and demonstrate knowledge and application of Departmental and Trust policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with the Team Leader (or Theatre Co-ordinator) to ensure patients are prepared for Theatre in a reasonable time and are received into the Theatre department adhering to the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
  • Assist in the safe handling, transfer and positioning of patients between all areas of the theatre department.
  • Provide skilled assistance when participating in the administration of infusions, drugs, blood and blood products.
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments such as laboratory services and the Sterile Services Unit.
  • Ensure all Theatre equipment is checked as suitable for use prior to each patient's operation.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in practice in own surgical specialty or specialty group.
  • Be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence‑based care using a defined model of care.
