Band 6 Junior Sister - Marjory Warren Unit OPD/Day Hospital

An exciting opportunity for a full time Band 6 who is enthusiastic and motivated to provide visible leadership to join our team Marjory Warren Unit Day Hospital/ OPD . You will need to have the management and communication skills to lead the team working closely with the Manager, matrons and business manager.

Our day hospital is on the ground floor of the Marjory Warren Unit, open Monday to Friday and has a car parking adjacent to the main entrance. The hospital has a friendly ambience for patients who are receiving treatments on a day basis or attending one of our various clinics. We run infusions and treatments through our day hospital, working extensively with other services such as Rheumatology and General Medicine.

We also run several clinics on the unit. Older people are more likely to have a fall or number of falls; we offer a falls clinic where you can be assessed and we will investigate the cause of your falls to help prevent further falls in the future. Stroke/TIA clinics run every day, Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate can be a Band 6 role or a senior Band 5 and will be supported to develop their leadership skills and will lead by example to deliver excellent high-quality care,will develop your professional accountability, innovative thinking contributing to a clear vision for the in-patient nursing area. You will be responsible for the continuous management of the unit and contributing to high standards of care delivery.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a caring, compassionate individual that is well organised, thrives under pressure and feels ready to develop their leadership skills within a friendly and supportive team.

The post holder will support the Ward Manger in all aspects of Ward/ Department management and have a key role in co-ordinating and developing the nursing team ensuring that patients receive the required standard of care.

To effectively co-ordinate care to ensure a seamless and timely pathway of care for patients. To be a visible and accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives and staff. Organise own workload and adjust priorities in response to issues arising in the workplace. Deputise for the Ward Manager as required. Maintain ward management records and produce timely management reports as required in his/ her absence. Ensure comprehensive clinical records are maintained. Support the management of roster allocation for present and future shifts in order to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model. Ensure the provision of compassionate, safe and high quality care of all patients and supervise the working of junior staff and trainees during the span of duty. Ensure the efficient use of ward resources e.g. bank staff.

Job responsibilities

Supported by the Ward manager and Matron, you will develop your professional accountability, innovative thinking contributing to a clear vision for the in-patient nursing area. You will be responsible for the continuous management of the ward and contributing to high standards of care delivery. Please also refer to attached job description & person specification for detailed job description and main responsibilities.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
