Overview

Autism Assessor for Children and Young People (CYP) – Remote

Role: ADOS trained clinicians working as part of a multidisciplinary assessment team. Remote delivery of developmental histories and observations where skills allow; involvement in MDT diagnostic decision-making; tech-enabled report writing; and outcome calls with families.

Job responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality autism assessments.
  • Contribute to remote developmental histories via video calls and remote child observations where skilled.
  • Participate in peer MDT diagnostic decision-making with senior clinical MDT support as required.
  • Write outcome reports using technology-enabled processes.
  • Conduct outcome calls with parents and families via video call.
  • Act in accordance with safeguarding policy, including risk assessment where necessary.
  • Maintain mandatory training and CPD requirements.
Qualifications and experience
  • Professional Registration with HCPC, NMC, GMC or Social Work England.
  • Typically held by professionals such as Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Mental Health Nurses, Medical Doctors, or Social Workers (as applicable).
  • Completion of a recognised ADOS-2 course is required for NMC, HCPC and Social Work England registered applicants; Clinical Psychologists and Medical Doctors may be considered without ADOS-2.
  • At least 1 year of experience in children and young people’s autism diagnostic assessments, with knowledge of co-occurring conditions, differential diagnoses, and the ability to present findings concisely in a client-centred report with a strengths-and-needs profile.
  • Good time management and caseload management; high-quality parent and patient communication skills; enhanced DBS with barred list check.
Desirable
  • Formal training in autism developmental histories (e.g., ADI-R).
  • Experience in risk assessment within autism services.
  • Safeguarding training (Level 3+).
  • Experience in ADHD assessments.
