The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team of Aberystwyth Arts Centre. We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join the team, to work on engaging and attractive marketing and communications strategies to support the breadth of activity in the Arts Centre.

Aberystwyth Arts Centre is a major regional arts venue with a professional concert hall, theatre, studio, cinema, exhibition, and workshop spaces. We offer a busy programme across all art forms and take touring work from major touring companies as well as produce our own professional shows and major festivals.

What you’ll do

This job description is subject to review and amendment in the light of the changing needs of the University, to provide appropriate development opportunities and/or the addition of any other reasonable duties.

The role holder will assist the team in the delivery and development of campaign strategies to generate and deliver high quality, engaging content, particularly for our digital channels, covering the breadth of Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s activity, as well as implementing day-to-day campaigns.

We are looking for a confident, talented and dynamic individual with a good understanding of digital content and a creative eye. You will ideally have experience of a range of online communication tasks such as social media content creation, video editing and/or animation.

Working as part of the Marketing Team, you will create original content, and continually strive to find new ways to communicate Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s story and programme to external audiences, stakeholders and the wider public, driving visitor numbers and supporting wider brand awareness online.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • To implement campaigns for marketing Aberystwyth Arts Centre activity, to maximise attendances and profile.
Digital content
  • Produce highly engaging multimedia user content for a range of target audiences (e.g. young people, audience members, donors etc.), carefully tailoring content to both target audience and distribution channel.
  • Be responsive and flexible to create and deliver content reactively or at short notice.
  • Actively contribute to the development of innovative ideas and new initiatives.
  • Record and edit video and sound projects
  • Ensure that Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s brand values and messages are accurately represented on all Aberystwyth Arts Centre materials.
  • Regularly review campaigns to find learning to improve future content creation.
  • Contribute positively to the ongoing development of Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s digital and online strategy and its related support and resource structures.
  • Use all currently available technical resources to realise video ideas as effectively and efficiently as possible, to the highest professional standards, and within budget.
Website, CRM and Social Media
  • To maintain and update the Arts Centre’s website and social media presence and run regular campaigns for social media, including using Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram and other new platforms and initiatives.
  • To maintain and deliver Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s communication with audiences and prospective audiences, through direct mail, e-flyers, and social media, including appropriate use of customer data through our ticketing system and Mailchimp.
  • Support a regular programme of audience research and analysis.
  • To ensure that the Arts Centre’s presence on social media platforms complies with Aberystwyth University internal policies on behaviour (Respect and Equality at Work, Bullying etc.) and external legislation (defamation, libel, data protection (GDPR), copyright, Welsh Language, digital accessibility etc.)
Print display
  • To Co‑ordinate and carry out marketing activity around production, display and distribution of regular printed promotional materials. To liaise with programmers, visiting companies, design agencies and printers, and other colleagues and practical design work using software such as Canva, Adobe InDesign or Photoshop.
  • Maintaining the display of printed material throughout the Arts Centre and its external advertising sites.
Press
  • To support the implementation of media and press campaigns, covering both editorial and advertising.
Network and Liaison and Staff Supervision
  • There will be no line management responsibility but there will be occasional supervision and delegation of duties carried out by work placement candidates or volunteers allocated to undertake direct marketing activity.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key contacts and promotional partners
  • To liaise with colleagues across the Arts Centre, in particular with Box Office colleagues to ensure that information flows effectively.
Budgets and Finance
  • The role holder will not have a budget to manage but will be expected to undertake some financial processes including raising orders (e.g. for advertising space, or internally for other supplies), and verifying goods received
Other Duties
  • The role holder will perform any other duties as directed by the Line Manager or other senior member of Aberystwyth Arts Centre or Faculty.
  • The role holder will help promote a healthy and safe working environment by showing a duty of care to themselves, towards any other employees and to members of the public.
  • To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Who you are – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required

Essential

  1. Educated to A-level or equivalent
  2. Experience in undertaking campaigns in social media in a marketing/ promotional context across various platforms (Youtube, X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, Hootsuite etc)
  3. Experience of working with the general public
  4. Good interpersonal skills, enabling effective team working relationships and the ability to influence and persuade a wide range of people
  5. Strong communication skills both orally and in writing
  6. Ability to work unsupervised and able to be proactive and take the initiative in problem solving
  7. Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly and appropriately to an ever‑changing programme of activity
  8. Excellent attention to detail, including strong proofreading skills
  9. Practical digital technology skills including video and editing skills
  10. Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level C1

Desirable

  1. Experience/background of working in an arts organisation
  2. Educated to degree level or equivalent / training in marketing or a formal qualification.
  3. A full, clean driving licence.
  4. Knowledge of arts press and media
  5. The ability to develop and create a wide variety of sales/marketing copy.
  6. Experience of Adobe packages (Premier, Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator)
  7. Experience of capturing/importing media, organising raw media, editing footage and sound files, creating and inserting static and motion graphics, subtitling, captioning and adding music/voice‑over/sfx as required
  8. Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level C2
