Join Pen Underwriting as an Assistant Underwriter and be part of a team that values collaboration, growth, and making a difference.

As an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll work closely with experienced underwriters to evaluate new business and renewals.

How you’ll make an impact
  • You will make underwriting decisions that align with our guidelines and ensure positive outcomes for our brokers, customers, and capacity partners.
  • Your role will involve reviewing risks, handling client enquiries, and maintaining strong relationships with brokers.
  • Handle new business, renewal, rating and adjustment enquiries from clients through phone call, email or digital referral.
  • You will also play a key part in meeting business targets by retaining clients and converting new business opportunities.
  • Actively trade with brokers in negotiations to seek opportunities to sell our products and grow our accounts.
  • Generate revenue and underwriting profit for the SME and Personal lines division and Pen.
  • Help deliver excellent service and grow our accounts.
  • Understand policy coverage and address claims-related queries.
  • Collaborate with the accounts team to resolve financial queries.
  • Ensure compliance with FCA regulations and company values.
About You
  • Knowledge of insurance principles and practices.
  • CII qualification preferred, but not essential.
  • GCSE qualifications, including English and Mathematics.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with brokers and negotiate effectively.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools like Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • A customer-focused approach with excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to identify key information for underwriting decisions.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to manage your workload and meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset and a professional, approachable demeanour.
