Assistant Quantity Surveyor

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the team at Thames, a Galliford Try business. As a Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be an integral part of the Framework Commercial team, working closely with Pre-Con, Design, and Delivery functions to manage commercial administration, reporting, and performance on large or multiple smaller projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure a safe working environment.
  • Produce subcontract documentation, negotiate terms, conditions, prices, and schedules.
  • Manage subcontract packages, including interim assessments and change management.
  • Issue commercial notices to clients and subcontractors as required.
  • Handle contract variations and produce Compensation Event Quotations.
  • Submit and agree monthly applications with the client.
  • Coordinate with operational and engineering teams to maintain site records.
  • Prepare detailed monthly reports and CVRs.
  • Maintain a detailed Cost Plan, tracking expenditures and liabilities.
  • Interpret expenditure reports from internal systems.
  • Lead weekly progress and risk meetings.
  • Generate reports for clients.

About you:

  • Understanding of standard contract forms.
  • Proficient IT skills: Excel, Word, Contract Management Systems (CEMAR, Oracle).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of construction processes.
  • Professional qualification (e.g., MCIOB, MRICS) or working towards it (Desirable).
  • Relevant degree or experience in a commercial environment.
  • Experience with large or multiple schemes.
  • CSCS card.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
