Overview

Our Forensic Psychology department is recruiting for a full-time Assistant Psychologist to join two services: Marlborough House in Milton Keynes (28-bedded male medium secure forensic unit) and Woodlands House (a men’s low secure forensic unit adjacent to the Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury). The role involves planning and delivering psychological interventions (group and individual), undertaking interview and psychometric assessments, assisting with research and projects, and teaching work. You will help ensure a high-quality psychological service within a multi-disciplinary, supportive context, with emphasis on staff support and working with families/carers. There are opportunities to engage in projects and research to improve the quality of psychological services. Our department supports a diversity of therapeutic approaches and prioritises supervision and continuing professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologists in psychological input, including developing psychological formulations, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Carry out structured risk assessments and neuropsychological assessments; participate in projects and research as applicable.
  • Undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of clients, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and semi-structured interviews with clients, families, and others involved in the client’s care.
  • Assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological treatment and/or management of client problems, including risk of violence and protective factors, under supervision in inpatient/residential settings.
  • Assist in coordinating and running therapeutic groups.
  • Attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience working within forensic or similar clinical settings is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and engage with a challenging but rewarding population.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Induction and ongoing professional development will be provided; mandatory and statutory training is required.
  • Appointment to this post is subject to satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study; referees should respond promptly.
