At Brentwood County High School, we provide an education that supports students academically, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Our co-operative values— self-help, self-responsibility, equity, equality, democracy, and solidarity — shape everything we do and form the foundation of the "BCHS Way."

Ofsted judged us "Good" in all areas, noting that pupils have high aspirations, value learning, and show resilience and responsibility. They praised our calm, purposeful lessons, commitment to values, and the many positive contributions students make, including sixth formers supporting younger pupils. As a Co-operative Academy rooted in our community, we are proud to be an inclusive comprehensive school built on trust, respect, care, and hard work. We measure success by more than exam results, recognising the wider achievements of every young person.

What makes BCHS a great place to teach and learn
  • Motivated pupils with a strong voice, including diversity champions and a student parliament.
  • Staff supported through extensive coaching and professional development.
  • A knowledgeable, dynamic Trust and supportive governors with a strong understanding of education.

BCHS is located in the heart of Brentwood, near the town centre, a short distance from the train station. The school also includes a large sixth form campus and achievements at KS5 have been a key strength. Parking is available on-site and there are good transport links by rail and bus. BCHS is just over two miles from the M25. In February 2024, we opened the final stage of our £27 million DFE heritage building project, providing new state-of-the-art learning environments including science, sporting, technology, and art facilities while retaining the character of the original school buildings that date back over a century. BCHS is a member of Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust with twelve member schools within Essex. All schools in the Trust work in equal partnership and are members of the Co-operative Society. Our Co-operative Values focus on enabling all students to achieve their potential both academically and as young people.
