Overview
The Army Rugby Union Trust are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our small team of four, supporting the day-to-day delivery of all Army Rugby Union activities. This wide-ranging role covers operational planning and delivery of events and their management and the specific duty of managing all media/communications, while supporting other members of staff with teamwear kit co-ordination.
The successful candidate will be involved in both office-based administration and the hands-on delivery of matches and events at the Army Rugby Stadium in Aldershot and at other venues across the UK, including Championship, Premiership and National stadiums.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in sport operations, with the chance to develop experience across rugby delivery, media and event management. The role requires flexibility, with occasional evening and weekend work as part of the event programme.
You will be working as a member of a small permanent staff team based in Aldershot who are part of the wider Army Sport team of circa 50 employees.
Duties
Rugby Operations & Event Delivery
- Support the planning, coordination and delivery of all ARU fixtures, competitions and events.
- Provide operational support to ARU committees, teams and departments.
- Maintain event trackers, schedules and communications with stakeholders.
- Attend operational planning meetings for the annual Inter Service Championship and assist with delivery of the competition.
- Provide support at Inter Service Championship events, including logistics and operational delivery including mascots and media requirements.
Media & Communications
- Update and maintain the ARU website, producing and editing content as required.
- Manage ARU social media channels with engaging and timely content including coverage of ARU fixtures and events.
- Coordinate media attendance at ARU fixtures and events in accordance with the annual media and communications budget to ensure appropriate coverage across ARU representative and community activities each season.
- Coordinate with Soldier Magazine, British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) and other media outlets for coverage and features.
- Liaise with professional rugby clubs regarding promotional content for contracted ARU players.
- Support the production of matchday programmes, digital content and publications.
- Co-ordinate all ARU media requirements for the Inter Service Championship, including but not limited to programme content, team headshots, team sheets, squad bios, big screen and LED content.
- Attend Inter Service Championship media and marketing planning meetings on behalf of the ARU.
- Assist with photography, videography and press/media coordination at events.
- Ensure consistency with ARU brand, Army Sport and Army Media and Comms communications policies.
Retail & Kit Coordination (Support Role)
- Support the Assistant Operations Manager in managing teamwear ordering, delivery, and distribution for representative teams, departments and committees.
- In conjunction with the ARU official kit supplier, lead on the retail product line for the online store and provide support to their marketing team for the promotion of retail products and promotions via the ARU internal and external media channels.
- In conjunction with the ARU official kit supplier, provide support for merchandise operations at Inter Service fixtures and major events.
Operational Support
- Respond to daily operational enquiries and provide general administrative support.
- Support the management of ARU facilities and resources, including the Development Centre and ARU vehicles.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in sport operations, or events administration.
- Proven ability to manage social media channels and update websites.
- Strong communication skills (copywriting, editing, digital content creation).
- Ability to coordinate logistics and support the delivery of events.
- Proficiency with digital tools such as WordPress and Canva.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Desirable
- Experience in a rugby, sporting, military, or public sector environment.
- Background in media, communications, or PR.
- Experience in product ordering, receiving and checking stock deliveries, managing stock levels, and issuing stock to teams.
- Knowledge of sponsorship compliance and brand management.
