Job description
Architectural Technologist / Experienced Part 2 Architectural Assistant

(Stage 4 Technical Design–Led Role)

Full Time Office: Essex (office-based)

Salary: £35,000–£48,000, dependent on experience

EPA Design is a design‑led architectural practice specialising in high‑quality private residential architecture. We are looking to appoint an Architectural Technologist or experienced Architectural Technician with a strong focus on Stage 4 Technical Design and construction information, to join our growing studio.

This role is ideally suited to someone who is technically confident, methodical, and comfortable coordinating detailed technical information through the later design stages. While there will be some involvement in planning‑stage support, the core of the role sits firmly within technical delivery, detailing, and coordination through to construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading and supporting the production of Stage 4 technical design packages, including detailed construction information and coordinated drawings.
  • Developing robust technical solutions, construction details, and material specifications for high quality private residential projects.
  • Coordinating technical information with consultants, suppliers, and contractors to ensure clarity, buildability, and compliance.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate, well‑structured drawing packages to a consistently high professional standard.
  • Supporting the transition from planning approval into technical design, including occasional planning stage amendments where required.
  • Attending site visits, surveys, and project meetings, with responsibility for technical follow‑up actions under senior guidance.
  • Assisting with day‑to‑day technical project coordination to support smooth delivery through construction stages.
  • Maintaining quality control, consistency, and accuracy across all technical outputs.
Skills, Experience & Attitude
Essential
  • Architectural Technologist or experienced Part 2 Architectural Assistant Architectural Technician background (Part II Architectural candidates will be considered where they have strong technical, Stage 4 focused experience).
  • Proven UK‑based experience within an architectural practice, ideally on private residential projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations, construction methods, and technical detailing.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD for technical design and construction information.
  • Confident communicator, able to liaise clearly with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Organised, reliable, and comfortable managing technical workloads with appropriate senior support.
Desirable
  • Experience coordinating consultant information at technical stage.
  • Familiarity with SketchUp and Adobe Suite (Photoshop / InDesign / Procreate).
  • On‑site experience during construction phases.
  • Attitude and approach are as important as technical capability. We are looking for someone who engages positively with the studio, communicates clearly, and contributes constructively to project delivery.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary (£35,000–£48,000) based on experience.
  • A supportive and sociable studio environment where people are trusted and valued.
  • Hands‑on involvement in high‑quality private residential projects.
  • Ongoing mentorship, training, and opportunities for career progression.
  • Regular CPD sessions.
  • Studio social events and a genuinely collaborative team culture.
  • Flexible working hours (to be discussed).
  • Generous holiday allowance.
  • Private healthcare.
