With a focus on integrating techniques that provide unbiased advice and the opportunity for industry development. Operating independently for over 10 years and growing organically from 3 to over 50 employees, we have grown to become the largest independent provider of Archaeological Geophysical surveys in the UK. We are a CIfA Registered Organisation, a member of FAME and ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 accredited and work alongside major archaeological contractors on a wide range of exciting projects throughout the UK, including small-scale community surveys and national-scale infrastructure projects. We offer a full in-house training programme on all aspects of Archaeological Geophysics, and in addition to a continued commitment towards employee personal development through other Learning and Development initiatives such as book club, storytelling sessions and more.
The primary purpose of the Archaeological Geophysicist role is to undertake geophysical surveys and analysis, ensuring the jobs are conducted to a high standard and completed within the allocated timescales. This will require driving across the UK and staying away across the week, planning and executing geophysical surveys, liaising with landowners or other external stakeholders as necessary, undertaking day-to-day equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, completing and signing off site documents and paperwork, ensuring collected data is of a high quality, and managing a field assistant.
The geophysical surveys will mainly be comprised of cart-based (hand-pulled or quad-towed) magnetometer surveys, with potential opportunities for combined electromagnetic induction surveys or ground penetrating radar surveys, dependent on skills and progression. While the role is primarily fieldwork-based (with an average dependent on role), it will include an office rotation on a semi-regular basis.
