Locum Advanced Practitioner – Adult Social Care

Job title: Social Work Advanced Practitioner – Safeguarding (locum)
Location: Taunton, Somerset
Contract type: Full-time, ongoing locum contract (agency/temporary)
Pay: £44 per hour

Key responsibilities

Lead on complex safeguarding assessments

  • Provide supervision, consultation and expert guidance to frontline staff managing high-risk cases.
  • Coordinate and chair multi-agency safeguarding meetings, promoting effective partnership working.
  • Produce high-quality written reports and maintain thorough case records in line with statutory and best-practice standards.
  • Support continuous improvement across the team — including mentoring junior practitioners, training, and promoting best practice.
Candidate requirements
  • Experienced social worker (or equivalent qualified professional) with a strong background in safeguarding (children and/or adults) — able to lead on complex cases.
  • Leadership skills: able to supervise, advise and mentor frontline staff.
  • Ability to coordinate multi-agency working and produce statutory documentation to high standards.
About You:
  • Qualified Social Worker or other relevant professional qualification. SWE Registration (for Social Workers). Significant experience in adult hospital discharge and/or intermediate care. Strong understanding of the Care Act, MCA, and safeguarding legislation. Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced acute hospital environment. Excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills.
