Advanced Clinical Practitioner: Oncology

We are seeking an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, with demonstrable experience in autonomous practice, to work across our SACT services. The post holder will provide expertise in their area of clinical practice, professional leadership and education in the field of Oncology. Job summary

FIXED TERM CONTRACT – 36 MONTHS. The role supports development of SACT services bridging the gap between acute care and oncology services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Applicants must demonstrate innovation in practice to improve patient outcomes, with experience managing cancer‑related complications and acute complex conditions.

Main duties of the job

As part of a multi‑professional team the post holder will work at advanced level clinical practice, operating autonomously and collaboratively whilst demonstrating accountability and self‑direction in line with the relevant code of professional conduct.

The post holder will be a clinical leader, enabling innovative solutions to the care and experience of practice. They will demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgement and diagnostic reasoning to provide a differential diagnosis.

The post holder will work within a high‑pressured environment and manage patients receiving Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapies (SACT) with a lead role in managing patients experiencing complications of Immuno‑Oncology treatments. Additional skills will be attained within the specialist area.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will autonomously manage patients undergoing SACT in all clinical environments and will:

  • Assess individuals and families using person‑centred approaches and a range of assessment methods including history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
  • Apply advanced clinical‑reasoning skills to conduct comprehensive assessments, instigate and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop both working and differential diagnoses.
  • Formulate, communicate, implement, and evaluate management plans.
  • Use evidence‑based therapeutic interventions, including prescribing medication where legally allowed and actively monitoring effectiveness.
  • Promote value‑based clinical decision‑making, critically evaluating and applying knowledge in a person‑centred way.
  • Develop and implement local and network‑wide management and treatment protocols and pathways, challenging predetermined protocols or workplace imperatives where necessary.
