Acoustic Consultant
Position: Acoustic Consultant | Location: Wakefield | Salary: £29,000 – £32,000 DOE
Overview
Join a nationwide building consultancy expanding its acoustics and environmental division. This role offers a 1‑3 year consultant to grow across environmental, architectural and building acoustics, contributing to design teams, producing high‑quality assessments and leading client‑facing delivery.
Responsibilities
- Technical Work – Undertake environmental noise and vibration monitoring, baseline surveys and compliance assessments; use industry‑standard modelling tools (CadnaA, SoundPLAN, Odeon, Insul) for acoustic modelling; produce clear reports in line with BS4142, BS8233, BS5228, ProPG, WHO and other standards; deliver building acoustics services including sound insulation design, reverberation analysis and internal noise criteria assessments; develop noise control and mitigation strategies for planning and building design.
- Project Management – Oversee projects from initiation to completion, maintaining technical accuracy, controlling budgets and meeting deadlines; prepare proposals, quotations and supporting documentation; communicate effectively with clients, planners and design teams; attend site inspections and design meetings, offering clear, professional guidance.
- Compliance – Ensure all work complies with current legislation, standards and best‑practice guidance; keep accurate records of surveys, equipment calibration and QA documentation.
Skills & Experience
- Essential – Degree in Acoustics, Engineering, Physics, Environmental Science or similar; 1‑3 years experience in acoustic consultancy; solid understanding of UK acoustic standards and guidance; confident using sound level meters and monitoring equipment; strong analytical abilities with excellent reporting and communication skills; full UK driving licence and willingness to travel; ability to work independently and collaboratively; good organisational and time‑management skills; proactive, solution‑oriented attitude.
- Desirable – IOA membership (AMIOA/MIOA) or working towards it; experience with modelling software such as CadnaA or SoundPLAN; knowledge of vibration assessments and monitoring; experience in architectural acoustics or mechanical services noise control.
