🔍 Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist - Paediatrics & Strabismus (Scotland)

📍 Location: East of Scotland

📅 Duration: 12‑month locum

💷 Rate: £90-£110 per hour

🕒 On‑call: 1 in 9

We're seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus surgery to join a high‑performing eye department in the East of Scotland.

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a well‑structured locum post with a supportive team, modern facilities, and a balanced weekly rota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality paediatric ophthalmology clinics and surgical sessions
  • Perform paediatric strabismus surgery independently
  • Provide ROP screening (preferred but not essential)
  • Support ARC emergency clinics as required
  • Contribute to departmental governance, admin, and SPA time
  • Participate in a 1 : 9 on‑call rota
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience in paediatric specialist ophthalmology
  • Competence in paediatric strabismus surgery
  • NHS experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously within a busy clinical environment

Essential Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check - or a willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process
  • UK Right to Work
  • Strong communication and teamworking skills
