Job Advert - 1:1 SEND Support Assistant (Year 2) | Location: WF16 | Start: ASAP | Through Milk Education (with potential for permanent contract)

Milk Education is currently working in partnership with a welcoming Primary School in WF16, who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to work with a child in Year 2. This role is initially on a supply basis through Milk Education, with the strong possibility of a permanent contract with the school.

The school are looking for someone who can provide consistent, positive, and tailored support to meet the needs of the child, who has SEMH needs alongside cognition and learning challenges. While all applications are warmly welcomed, the school would particularly value applications from male candidates, as the child would benefit from a positive male role model.

Responsibilities
  • 1:1 SEND support for a Year 2 pupil with SEMH and cognition/learning needs
  • Helping the child to engage in learning within the classroom, as well as supporting them in managing behaviours and transitions
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider staff to provide consistent, personalised strategies
  • Encouraging the use of visual aids such as Now/Next boards and visual timetables
The Ideal Candidate Will Be
  • Experienced in working 1:1 with children with SEND, ideally SEMH
  • Calm, quietly spoken, and able to communicate positively
  • Skilled at using distraction, giving limited choices, and supporting positive behaviour
  • Flexible, adaptive, and willing to trial new approaches
  • Consistent in providing structure, routine, and positive praise
  • Proactive, resilient, and able to remain positive even when things become challenging
