Work alongside our innovative team based in Auckland, New Zealand! We are seeking talented individuals excited about the opportunity to learn, expand their skillset and support our company in its evolution to a Rust code base.

While most of our team work within the New Zealand timezone, we welcome applications from those located internationally. Propellerhead only requires a minimal timezone overlap with our NZ-based team, mainly to join the daily stand-up. This typically takes place at the start of the NZ work day (9.00am NZT), though may vary slightly depending on which team you join. The crossover hours will be discussed further and agreed upon in the latter stages of our recruitment process.

Role Responsibilities

• Active participation in all aspects of software solution design, including code structure, deployment architecture, DevOps, automated testing and integration of third party systems in line with our technical strategies.
• Collaborating with client stakeholders and with fellow Propellerhead Developers, Analysts, and Solution Architects, to create a shared understanding of the solution design and roadmap delivery in line with agreed budgets.
• Constructing software at every layer of the stack, from user interfaces, back end services, data repositories, interoperability, infrastructure‑as‑code, deployment pipelines, automated testing and system monitoring.
• Providing second‑line support of the systems you build and actively seeking ways to keep your software secure, performant and reliable.
• Passing on your learning of new technologies or techniques to the broader organisation as part of our knowledge sharing programme.
• As a core team member you will be responsible for directing the development approach and reviewing components delivered by implementation partners to ensure quality measures such as security, reliability, maintainability, performance and functional fit for purpose.
• Actively moving forward the evolution of our code base from C# to Rust.

Skills and Experience Required

• 7+ years experience as a Software Developer, including experience working with enterprise‑level complexity.
• You must have proficiency in TypeScript and at least one modern web application framework, preferably React.
• Must have experience in C# and up‑to‑date .NET frameworks to the extent you can maintain some existing code.
• Hands‑on experience deploying to Azure and/or AWS, including participation in building CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code using tools such as Terraform.
• You must have experience with asynchronous services and/or stream processing.
• Experience with Kubernetes and container‑based deployments.
• Some experience with Rust is desirable. You will be moving heavily towards this programming language with us.
• Previous experience with Go or C++, is a bonus.
• We are particularly looking for developers with experience or demonstrable interest in any of the following: digital identity, verifiable credentials, open banking, AI agent authorization, edge or device‑based software deployment.
• Experience using techniques such as user stories to express the work to be done as business outcomes.
• You can produce clear and concise design documents.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills to translate between requirements and technical tasks.
• Remote candidates: Able to demonstrate a reliable work setup, including a high‑quality camera, and stable high‑speed internet connection, to ensure consistent and quality involvement in virtual meetings.
